Hey so I am alive! And doing art kinda!

Here’s some Tolkien-flavored dargins in varying states of done-ness, ranging from the tentative layout sketch of the Fire Drake of Gondolin in the bottom left and progressing clockwise to the finished Ancalagon the Black in the bottom right. Top row featuring Smaug the Golden inspired by the Professor’s original ‘Conversation with Smaug’ illustration and also Glaurung, Father of Dragons. 

I kinda want to do a series of Morgoth’s beasties. There’s a lot of fun monsters in the Silm that don’t get very much screen time, fanart-wise. 

OKAY SO I wanna talk about yet another of my insanely self-indulgent AUs, specifically, the Orth!Anders AU. 

In between the First and Second Blights, pre-Andraste, Anders is an Orth Shaman who is psychically/blood-magically bonded to a griffon (through shenanigans, the griffon is host to Justice). MEANWHILE the Alamarri of Hawkhold have been staging raids along the Tevinter borders and have gotten themselves hopelessly lost in the deserts of the Orthlands after accidentally-on-purpose stealing a lyrium elf. Isabela, who is in some vague and undefined Trouble in Tevinter, aids their escape and also winds up lost in the desert. Merrill isn’t Dalish – the Dales aren’t a thing yet – but she’s not a Tevinter slave, either. No one is quite sure what to make of her. 

Bethany and Garrett and Merrill and Anders (who has a name, but no one can say it right and then Fenris started calling him ‘Orthlander’ and it got further truncated) cannot agree on an interpretation of any sort of augury. Meanwhile, Carver is very done and Marian is very into all these attractive strangers and did I mention this is an everyone-lives!older-twin-Hawkes!AU because that is also true. 

Relevant headcanons: 

  • The Avvar seem to shave their heads? Carried that through to the Alamarri!Hawkes, although Garrett and Marian aren’t really keeping up with it. Also decided that they are all swanning around shirtless a la that one armor in Inquisition, because the Orthlands are hot af. Carver does not look like Carver without his hair and outfit and also with dramatic bodypaint but rest assured that’s him in the back. 
  • I decided apropos of Solas’s concept art that pre-Dales it was a Thing that Elves would shave the sides of their heads at least to draw attention to their ears. A kind of ‘fuck you, I am an elf’ statement. 
  • Also Merrill in an undercut like yes please
  • Natural hair!Isabela because also yes please
  • Garrett is a mage and his spirit-teacher is Curiosity which ends badly for just about everyone
  • Bethany is the Augur-in-training and she’s got a spirit of Valor teaching her the ropes 
  • Griffon!Justice approves heartily
  • Griffon!Justice also likes Fenris
  • Griffon!Justice is a fat useless bird
